Hotel rooms with a hot tub: what to check

Private or shared, in the room or on the terrace, and the questions to ask before you pay.

Updated 2 November 2026

"Hotel with a hot tub" can mean three very different things: a tub in your room or on your own terrace, a tub you can book for a private session, or a tub in the spa that every guest shares. For a minimoon, the difference matters.

The three kinds

Questions to ask before you pay

  1. Which room has it? Ask for the room type by name and check that the booking confirmation shows it. A hotel "with hot tub suites" may also sell standard rooms with no tub.
  2. Is it yours alone? Ask whether anyone else can use it during your stay.
  3. Is it covered or outdoors? An outdoor tub in a Lake District winter is part of the fun; a tub in the bathroom is warmer.
  4. When is it filled and heated? Some are filled fresh for each stay and need time to heat.
  5. Are there rules? Some hotels set hours, ban glass or add a charge.
  6. What is the cancellation policy? These rooms tend to be the most expensive in the hotel.

Where to find one

Every hotel in our UK private hot tub list shows the room to book and a link to the hotel's own page that describes it.
