Short answer: start looking in January, and book once your wedding date and the first night after it are fixed. Popular rooms, such as the few suites in a hotel with a private hot tub, go first, especially for Saturday-night weddings in summer.
January is when couples start searching
We looked at Google Trends for the UK and Ireland from January 2019 to October 2026 and averaged each calendar month. Interest in honeymoons rises sharply in January and then settles. That fits the engagement calendar: Bridebook's UK wedding research puts December as the most popular month to get engaged.

- In Ireland, searches for "honeymoon" are 74% higher.

Minimoon talk runs all year
Searches for the word "minimoon" itself are too few for Google Trends to chart reliably, so we also counted 197 Reddit posts that mention a minimoon, across wedding and travel communities, from 2013 to October 2026. They are spread across the year rather than bunched in January. Spring and late summer are a little busier, which fits couples sorting out the trip a few months before a summer wedding.
What this means for booking
- Research in January and February. That is when most couples are looking.
- Book the first night early. If you want a specific suite for the night after a Saturday wedding in summer, book it as soon as your date is fixed. Hotels often have only one or two rooms with a private hot tub.
- Check the minimum stay. Ask whether there is a two-night minimum at weekends before you plan around a single night.
- Ask about cancellation. A flexible rate costs a little more but protects you if the wedding date moves.
